DAC Starts Today. I don’t have a “Cheesy Must See List”

Cooley’s got his list. Gary Smith has his. And as expected, no real testability or test related suggestions. As the last year has unfolded, the one thing that has been consistently at the top of the news and discussion is DFM. And, of course, that’s the big push at DAC with everyone. Both Cooley and Smith are directing the masses toward ClearShape, the DFM company that appears to have the most promise.

Another just slightly less popular topic of conversation is low-power design, the subject of many talks, papers and technical sessions.

As far as testability goes, if you’re a full conference registrant, you’ll have the opportunity to listen to at least a few papers on low-power test compression, ATPG techniques to reduce IR-drop, etc. It’ll be interesting to see just how much meaningful conversation a ‘free-day only’ registrant will be able to pick up in the various booths of the vendors that offer test and testability tools.

I might head down there this afternoon and find out…

  1. John,

Drop me a line if you’re going to be at DAC tomorrow (Tuesday). I’ll be there all week and and would be interested in meeting you.

  2. just expect a lot of marketing picthes and less technical stuff. Only exception will be if you were able to get hold of a good field application engineer who can discuss some real technical stuff :) …I attended 4 DAC’s sofar and my experience was always that first day ..collect lots of goodies…rest of the days attend the hands on workshops/tutorial.. if u can and SIGDA PHD forum for some academic research …last yr keynote speech was very good. unfortunately I’ll not be able to come to DAC this year..so I have to rely on ur blog for some of your experiences and comments :)

lowpower space is getting crowded like DFM was last yr :)

  3. I’m going to try to go down to DAC tomorrow (Wednesday) I’ll see what I can pick up.

  4. Thanks for the pointer to Cooley’s list.

If there’s a lot of hype over Low-Power, at least I “get it”. It’s a real problem and the ideas are understandable to an ASIC engineer. The DFM stuff has always been hard for me to picture.

Have a great time at DAC.
