DFT Digest Used To Look Like This…

Old DFT Digest Theme

Old DFT Digest Theme

Yes, over there to the left.

You may have noticed a change. Something a bit different… can’t put your finger on it?

Well I spent some time looking around for a new theme, a couple hours with Photoshop to make a new banner, even more time re-categorizing posts, and here we are. Like it? No? Oh well, it was free - ya get what you pay for. But I think the new theme has real possibilities. And although the old theme served us admirably - well, it was sooo… 2005.

The new format of DFT Digest, based upon Justin Tadlock’s magazine-style ‘Structure’ WordPress theme, is much more flexible, and makes full use of WordPress widgets, which will enable me to experiment a little more with various layouts, and organize things differently so as to support different types of content. Don’t ask me what types, I haven’t really figured all that out yet. I have some ideas…

The blog format, in general, is good for shorter, observational material, commentary, news items. But it suffers, especially when it’s a solo act, from lapses in posting and limited POV (no one can pretend to be conversant in all aspects of a discipline that spans test from board to chip, and from design to manufacturing).  Many of most successful and influential blogs have multiple writers contributing to keep a regular flow of content.  Then the problem is that if some one puts some time into a more in-depth article, it quickly gets shuffled out of the way as new posts are added to the top.  This new theme will add the flexibility to leave a feature article at the top of the page for awhile.

I always wanted DFT Digest to be a place where one can find a wider array of content: informative, tutorial, up-to-date methodology, DFT-related news items - maybe even DFT job postings? It’s all good, as long as it’s all DFT, all the time.

One disclaimer: I’m new to the theme, and it may take me some time to get the look-and-feel I’m looking for.  So don’t be surpised to see things being shuffled around a bit.

Thanks for tuning in…

  1. Hi John,

I like the new structure. I had thrown my own blog together kind of quickly and would like a better structure too. I’ll have to check this out.

  2. Thanks for feedback, Harry! Hay, I hear that Sean Murphy’s putting together another Blogger’s BoF @ ICCAD… Are you going up for it? I, myself, am saving myself for ITC.

    Cheers,

  3. Congrats on the snazzy new look! After I saw this post in my RSS reader, I had to surf over here to see it. :-)

Some day I want to retire my “legacy” blogger template and move up to widgets and all this new-fangled stuff.
